Screen Size
It stands to reason that if you are going to buy an iPhone 6 Plus then perhaps the number one reason is its bigger screen. You won’t be disappointed. On paper the 1920 x 1080 native resolution may seem out of date compared to some 2k Android phones like the Note 4 and Nexus 6, but in reality it is a stunner.
Realistic colours, superb brightness and wide viewing angles all catch the eye making it one of the best smartphones panels on the market. Its 401 ppi (pixels per inch) density is beaten by 2k rivals, but you will never notice this in real world use and it remains far above Apple’s own 326ppi ‘Retina Display’ threshold.
For me the iPhone 6 Plus display is the perfect example of Apple not over-engineering a product for the sake of it. Only under intense scrutiny will the difference between this 1080p display and 2k rivals be spotted and 2k comes with major performance and battery trade-offs.

Performance
Criticism came Apple’s way when it was confirmed that the iPhone 6 Plus would be no more powerful than the smaller iPhone 6, but in reality it makes sense for developers and both phones fly.
iOS 8 continues to have its fair share of problems on older models, but it is fast, efficient and rock solid on both Apple’s new iPhones. The fact the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus also operate so smoothly despite only packing 1GB of RAM is more testament to iOS than criticism of the phone’s hardware.
One quirk is that the lower (1334 x 750) native resolution of the iPhone 6 may actually see it perform slightly faster than the iPhone 6 Plus as time passes and iOS and App Store apps become more demanding. That said nothing in the App Store will trouble either model for at least a few years.

Camera
Furthermore if you want the most consistently good photographs from any smartphone then the iPhone 6 Plus is the phone for you. Both the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus use the same Sony sensor, but the phablet adds optical image stabilisation (OIS) into the mix which is better at reducing shake than the (still excellent) digital image stabilisation (DIS) in the iPhone 6. The result is better low light images and smoother video.
Yes some rivals can match and occasionally even better the performance of the iPhone 6 Plus. Here credit goes to the Note 4 and Nexus 6, but they are slower to shoot and process images and their larger sensors mean you get files almost twice the size.
-------------------------
For me the iPhone 6 Plus was the best smartphone of 2014. Those who prefer the Galaxy Note 4, Moto G, Sony Xperia Z3 Compact or OnePlus One have highly valid claims, but what slowly won me over is its potential to reinvigorate Apple and drive the wider phablet market.
All of which means I’m going to advocate you buying one, right? Actually not so fast.
